It may just be the resolution of your picture.
If not, there may be two things wrong. Else its the forums being stupid or the picture you got really is invalid.Spoiler!

Well, let me tell you something. Forums are bugged at the moment. You can't post avatars or even profile pictures even size is small and postable. I've reported that bug and I hope it will be fixed asap.
