Try re-uploading other .gif avatars and if it still doesn't work, you need to contact a forum administrator to set it for you.

Should work like uploading any other picture. Only error I can think of is for the image to be too large to upload. I think its how you saved the file as well. I've changed my avatar to GIFs and sometimes it turns out just as a picture so I resize it and it works.
Pending OP 48 hours.
