Question Surviving in Los Santos 101. ! Updated 31.03.2013 !

    - - - UPDATE 31.3.2013 - - -
( Yes, I have returned to SARP after a really long pause, I was shocked how well this guide was doing, so i'll overhaul it, so it matches the current state of the server. Don't want to promise a date of completion, but I will change it little by little, so it will get updated constantly. )

~ Hey, I have seen many questions on the /newbie channel, and I decided to set up a guide, to help all the newbies without having them clutter up the /n with their newbish questions. ( No offence, everyone was a newbie once. ;)) ~

This is intended to be a very detailed guide, so grab a cup of tea/coffee (whatever do you like more), sit back, and read on.

Newbie's Survival Guide in Los Santos.

    S
o, You decided to play in our
    humble and fun roleplay server.
You have just chosen your name, and gone through the starting tutorial..

    Chapter 1: The Basics.

    You stand there
confused, and with alot of questions.
With this guide i'll get you started in how to
    roleplay, earn money etc.
Everything you may need to reach
    level 2.

First of all, I just mentioned
    levels.

    What is a level?
    You may ask.

    A
level is your "Score" in SARP. It determines how big your paychecks are, how long you've played and most importantly, your choices in SARP. It can vary from the ability of buying a gun (You must be Level 2) or joining a gang (The required level is determined by the gangleader or recruiter).

You can see other player's levels, by pressing
[TAB] on your keyboard, and scrolling down with your mouse-wheel.

As you see in the picture below, I highlighted the
"Score" column, which indicates the players level in-game.

The first player in the TAB window is you.

What is the benefit of buying a level?
First of all, you recieve bigger paychecks and players will respect you more if you have a higher level.

    How to buy a level?
Firstly, you need to get enough respect to buy a level.
To see your current respect, just type
    /stats.

I have highlighted it in the picture below.

For example, In this screenshot I have
2/24 respect, meaning that I need to get 22 more respect to buy a level. ( You can see the cost of the next level in /stats )
In the screenshot you can see, that my next level ( Level 6 ) will cost me
    $150k.

    How to get respect?
You get respect, by signing paychecks, that come every hour at
    xx:00.
    For example, at 10:00 ; 11:00 ; 12:00 etc.

Note:You have to play atleast 25 minutes to be able to sign a paycheck.

    When a paycheck arrives:

then just type what it asks to recieve a paycheck, if succesful, then this should appear:

Note:You'll get an Electricity bill only when you buy a house, so it's not recommended to buy a house at starting levels.

Chapter 2: Where to go now?

So, you learned about levels and paychecks, your next question could be, where to go now?

Here, I made a map about popular places, and useful ones aswell.

    1) A clothes store (There are also other shops out there)
    2) The
    Bank.
    3) The
    Fishing Pier.
    4) The
    LSPD.
    5) The
    Crane. (For selling cars)
    6)
    Materials Pickup 2.
    6b)
    Materials Factory 2.
    7) The
Huge Ammunation. (Behind it, hidden in the alleyway is the Materials Pickup 1)
    7b)
    Materials Factory 1.
    8) The
    Gym. (Main hangout spot)
    9)
    AllSaint's Hospital.
    9b)
    County General Hospital.

The first place to go is Number 1 on the map, it's the clothes store.
The skin you have now, is considered a "
    Noob skin".

So, to earn atleast some respect on the street, you gotta change your clothes or the skin you have.

    It should look like this:

Just step into the blue house icon, and type: /enter and you'll be inside.

Note:You can enter any building with an icon with the /enter command.

    When you're inside, just type
/buy, select "Skin" and type in a skin ID, which can be found here.

    Okay,
Number 2 is the bank, which looks like this:

You can /enter the bank and do 3 things, put money in your bank account with /deposit <amount>, take out money with /withdraw <amount> or rob the bank with /robbank.

You can rob the bank, at the time displayed when you walk on the icon inside the bank. When you start robbing the bank, you must
stay inside the bank, alive for 15 minutes. When you have survived this time period, a blip appears on the map and you must get there alive, with the money bag on your back to receive your stolen money.

Okay, so now you know how to store money, but what will you store, if you just spent your 10k on a new skin? Simple, just do something, that gives you income.

One of the profitable things a newbie can do, is go
fishing. ( Number 3 on the map. )

As you see, when you arrive on the pier, you see some fishing poles.
To start fishing, you have to go into the
"Bait Shop" and buy some items.

    1) - You need a fishing pole. There are four to choose from.
    2) - You will need a fishing line. It is possible to break the line, so be careful.
    3) - You will finally need some bait.

    So? What now?

Now you go up to the little fence, facing the sea and type
    /fish.
A fishing pole pops out, right-click to cast it into the sea.

Now a little bar appeared above your HP bar. It indicates the status of the fish.
It decreases to the left side, meaning that the fish is getting away.
If you force it to the right end, you will snap the line, so you have to keep the bar somewhere in the middle until the fish gets caught.

What can I do with these fishes?
You can sell the fishes at any 24/7 store.

    Note:
You can only sell fish which weigh more than 20lbs.

How can I see my fishes?
    Type /listfish.

What to do if I catch a fish I dont want?
    Either
/throwback your last fish, or /releasefish <number of the fish>.

So you got fishes to sell, and the question is, where to sell them?
    Check your map for a
Pink Cup icon, these represent a 24/7, a shop just like Walmart, where you can buy stuff and sell fish.
    Just go into a
    24/7 and type /sellfish <1-5>.

    To buy stuff in a
    24/7, just type /buy.

So, you just sold your fish, about to get into your stolen car, and suddenly you get mugged by some hooligans, you lose your earned fish money, and stand there in depression.

You can either, /call 911 and tell police about it, or go straight to the LSPD ( which stands for Los Santos Police Department ) and tell the officers on-duty about what happened, what they looked like etc.
    On my map, the
LSPD is marked as Number 4.

    The LSPD looks like this:

Okay, so you filed a report for a criminal process against the hooligans, and exit the LSPD.
You get hungry, but you dont have any money.
You look around and see a freshly painted sultan.

To earn profit, you can sell cars for exporting. You can sell any car you can get into.
Just get a car and go to
The Crane, which is marked as number 5 on the map.
When you get close to the crane, type
/dropcar, to see the red marker, in which you can drop the car.
Just drive into the marker to drop your car for money, if it doesnt drop, try again.

    The Crane looks like this:

So, you fished recently and just dropped a car. You can do these things once in 20minutes, this is called Reload Time. So, what do you do until this reload time expires?

You can do alot of jobs, to see a full list of them, type
    /skill.
Job locations are marked with a
    Yellow Dot on your map.

For example one of the jobs I have marked on my map, is the
Arms Dealer job. Arms dealers need to deliver packages to receive materials, to make guns and sell them.

To get this job, go to the
Ammunation, which is marked as number 7. on my map, and type:
/join, after that /accept job. If you already had a job before that, type /quitjob.

    The Ammunation looks like this:

To make guns, you need materials, to gather materials you deliver packages, which is called "Matrunning".

So, after you accept this job, you have 2 routes of how you can matrun, Route 1 aka The Sewers sometimes are risky, because the LSPD is right besides it, and cops sometimes patrol in the sewers.

Note:It is trespassing to be in the sewers, because it is the government's property.

The route starts at Number 7. on the map, which is a small alleyway with a dumpster. To get material packages you get up to the dumpster, and type /getmats. Now you just bought 10 materials packages for 500$, when you deliver these packages to Number 7B on the map, you'll recieve 250 materials.
    The other route is from
    6A to 6B.

This is what 7A looks like:

    This is what
    7B looks like:

This is what 6A looks like:

This is what 6B looks like:

Note:To see what guns you can make, just type /sellgun.

So, you learned to buy some new clothes, where is the LSPD and how to earn money.
After a hard day of work, you are tired of
matrunning, so you wanna chill out, but the question is where to do it?

    The
number 8 on the map, is the most popular place people hang out in SARP.
    It is called
    The Gym.

    It looks like this:

    Note:
Be careful around the gym, because you will easily get DM'ed.

You can also get vests, drugs or weapons from the appropriate dealers around the gym.

Now, lets say that you just got
DM'ed by a noob, and you are wasted.

What happens when your HP reaches 0/100?
You are sent to 1 of the 2 hospitals in Los Santos, you lose $1'000 (for medical expenses) and you also lose memory of the last 30 minutes before you've been sent to a hospital.

The first hospital is All Saint's (marked as
    number 9 on the map):

and the second is County's General (marked as number 9b on the map):

When you are sent to a hospital, you lose all of your weapons, and $1`000.

    Chapter 3: The Jobs.

There are alot of types of jobs, which give you money.
To see a full list of the available jobs, type
    /skill.

    1. Detective.
Detectives are meant to find players, for whatever purpose they seem neccesary.

Where can I get this job?
Here ( it's inside the LSPD, to the right as you enter ):

    What commands do I use?

All you can use now, is just /find <name>.

What does the skill level change?

    2. Lawyer.
We all know what are good lawyers, they are good liars and make you pay TONS of cash, for NOTHING, in the court of law, and sometimes relieve you of charges that you have actually comitted, that is if you payed them good enough.
While we dont have a court in SARP, we do have lawyers.

So what are Lawyers good for?
Lawyers can take crimes off of you, and lower your jail time.

Where can I get this job?
    Here:

    What are the commands?

    /defend <id> <price> - Attempts to take off a felony, from a suspect. Minimum cost $2'000.
    /free <id> - Shortens a criminals jail time by 1 minute.
/wanted - Lists the current citizens with a felony on them.
/duty - If you are on duty, then you will see when someone needs a lawyer in jail.

What does the skill level change?

    3. Whore.
You fuck people for money with the risk of STD's, although if you use condoms you have 0% of getting an STD.

What happens when I get an STD?
When you get an STD you will constantly lose HP, and you need to get to a hospital, and write /healme, to get rid of the STD.

    Whats the point of whores?
They refill HP and they earn money by doing so.

Where can I get this job?

    Outside of the Pig Pen:

Inside the Pig Pen, just walk up to this door and write /join ; /accept job.

    What are the commands?

/sex <id> - Attempts to have sex with a partner.

What does the skill level change?

    4. Drug Dealer.

    What drugs can I sell?
Crack, which is Heroin, and Pot, which is Marijuana.

    Where to get them?
    You can get crack here:

    You can get seeds here:

    Where to get this job?

How much do I ask for drugs?
    The average prices are:

    Pot - $5k - per 10g

    What are the commands?

/getseeds <amount> - Buy some seeds from the drughouse, you need 10 of them to grow anything.

    /sellpot <id> <amount> <price> - Sell some pot to someone.
    /sellcrack <id> <amount> <price> - Sell some crack to someone.

What does the skill level change?

    5. Car Jacker.
Car Jackers, jack a car, and export it for money.
You can take any car, and just write
/dropcarto show the red marker, and /dropcar again, to sell it, while standing at the red marker. ( The car dissapears afterwards, so be sure to keep an eye out for extra vehicles on your way there )

What does the marker look like? It doesn't show up?

What does the skill level change?
More money for the dropped car.

    7. Arms Dealer
Arms dealers gather up or buy lots of materials, make guns from them and sell them to the open public.
I've mentioned on how to gather materials, at the start of the guide, and to sell guns just type:
/sellgun - Lists the weapons you can make, and the material price.

What is the material price on the market?
Its about 10 $ per-material, so for 1k materials, the average price is $10k.

What does the skill level change?
    More weapons to make.

    8. Mechanic
A very useful job. Cannot earn much from it, though.

/duty - When you go on duty, you'll see when someone is in need of a mechanic.

    9. Boxer
A really unpopular job, noone does it.. It was popular earlier, when it came as an update.
    Where to get it?
    At the gym.

    What are the commands?
    /fight <id>
    /boxstats

    10. Fisherman
Really chilly to do this one, just relaxing.

    Where do I get it?
    You already have it.

You can catch more heavier fishes, which sell for more money.

    11. Drug Smuggler
The best job for newbies, to earn quick money.

Note: The cracklab limit must be under x/500, if it's full with crack, you cannot deliver anymore.

    Where do I get it?
Look at the map at the beginning.

    Commands?
/getcrate ( after that you type either "crack" or "pot" )- You buy a crate, of either crack or pot seeds.Skill level? More money, for dropped crates.

    12. Thief

    Where do I get it?
    You already have it.

    Commands?
    /pickpocket <id/name>

What does the skill level change?
    A smaller reload time.

    Chapter 4: How to live?

So, you know how to get around, you know how to get money, but you have no friends. :(
    BAWWWWW, but this is fixable.
Imagine, you arrive to a new city, alone. How will you get friends? Got an idea? Do it IC.

    Tip:
    Being polite always helps.

    Point 1: Moving around.

This isn't Need For Speed, this also isn't a parking simulator, so drive on the right side of the road and dont be stupid.
You don't have to wait for green lights, just make sure you dont hit anyone while going across intersections.

The picture displays the right directions, yet wrong driving. If you drive like this, dont be surprised that you will get mad at.

    Point 2: Settling down somewhere.

You can have fun all you want, but once youll be in need of storage to either store your illegal stuff or just have a place to call home.

    Having a house has its
    pros and cons.

    Pros:

    • You can store guns, crack, pot, materials and cash in your house.
    • It can work like a hideout. ( Detectives can't find you, if youre indoors )
    • You dont look like a nabster anymore.
    • You can bang your "GF" there.

    Cons:

    • You have to pay for electricity.
    • It costs pretty much.
    • It costs even more to move it.

    How to buy a house?
Find a nice house, step up to the door and type: /buyhouse.

    Point 2.1: Buying Vehicles.

Thanks for John_Stylez for striking a pose.

So you save up enough cash, and there are 2 ways of buying a vehicle.

Tip: Two vehicles are maximum, they show up on /stats.

    A -Buying from a player.
Look at AD's and wait for a player to sell a vehicle, and then contact them about the purchase.
    B -Buying from the dealerships.
Type : /dealerships and choose one from the list, and follow the blip on the map.

When you arrive it should look something like the picture above.

Point 3: Basic interaction with other human beings.

Interactions in SARP should be treated the same as interactions in Real Life.
You can't really die if you dont get CK'd (Character Killed), but that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.
Since this is an online-based community, you interact with other people.
People spend time here and so do you, so don't waste it.

Treat people with respect, if they deserve it of course and you'll be fine.

A contrast between Real Life and SARP.

    In real life:

You exit your house, head over to the nearest shop to buy some bread, for instance.
You take only enough money, to buy the stuff you need. ( In case of a robbery )
You go up to a street, look to the left, to the right, if clear then go across.
You enter the shop, greet the cashier, and go to the bread stand.

    In SARP:

You kick your door off the hinges with a 10-line macro.
You take all the money you have, that makes you feel more powerful. ( Fuck anyone who tries to rob me, will get killed )
You sprint across the street, looking only straight.
A car hits you, takes your armor off.. You get angry, ass-pull a shotgun or mp5 and fire at the motherfucker.
You run into the shop, buy something you wont even need.

There is a difference, am I right?
Even though, SARP is a game, in which you cannot feel fear, or pain... atleast pretend to.. to make Roleplay more interesting. I know, I know, everyone wants to be the undefeatable Rambo with his bow of exploding arrows, but really.. How old are you?

    Point 4: Basic knowledge.

So, you've had enough of living alone, you wanna join a family.
If the family is led by normal people, they will give you 2 tests, IC and OOC.
The OOC test has questions that determine if youre a douchebag.

So, the basic terminology you should know.

Note: Green - Allowed ( only normal people do it ), Yellow - Neutral, Red - Restricted ( only tards do it ).

    RP - Roleplaying
    - Acting as if your character was a string muppet, and you control each and every string of it. You live the life of your character. How he reacts to situations, how he handles fear, is he a cold-blooded puto? Your imagination is the only limit.

DM - Deathmatching - Do you know Counterstrike Deathmatch servers? Where you spawn, and kill, and die, and respawn. Instantly? No? Well then, Deathmatching is shooting anyone, for whatever reason the guy with the gun thinks is suitable.
Narbs, who Deathmatch, are called DMers, aka the Cancer of RP servers. They go around, with the newbie skin, with a colt or whatnot and shoot anything that moves.

IC - In character, aka through your character.
Example: Hello there, man I must say thats a really beautiful elegy you have there. ( Elegies don't exist outside GTA:San Andreas, and if they do, then I just gave you a bad example. )

OOC - Out Of Character, aka through you, in real life.
Example: Oh shit man, my mum is bitching and making me go to sleep, cu tomorrow, bb.

PG - Powergame - Forcing someone to RP what you want them to.
Example: /me pulls out a Spas 12, aims you between the eyes, and shoots, killing you.

    MG - Metagame -
    Mixing IC/OOC.
Example: You look at the players nametag, and say: Hey <name> your HP is low, go to a sprunk you faggot.

QS - Quickswap - Swapping your weapons, to erase the need to reload.

    CS - Crackshooting -
Using animations, to decrease the interval before shooting the next round.

KOS - Kill On Sight -
You see someone, and immediately pull out a weapon and attack them.

    RK - Revenge Killing -
For example Bob kills you, you respawn at the All Saints hospital, see Bob, and start attacking him.

    Why is this bad?
Because, you have a 30 min memory fadeout, before you die.
You can't remember, that bob killed you.

SK - Spawn Killing - Sitting at a hospital, and shooting anyone who respawns.

    Non-rp Behaviour -
Doing something, that you wouldn't do in Real Life.

    Note:
"Not knowing the rules, doesn't relieve you of the consequences. Thats why I strongly suggest you to check this post: http://www.gta-sarp.com/forums/showt...nd-Regulations "

F.A.Q ( Frequently asked questions, by narbs like yourself. :) )

    Q. Hao 2 be cup?
( How to be a police officer? )
    A. If recruitment is open, then apply here: http://www.gta-sarp.com/forums/misc.php?do=form&fid=13

    Q. How to get known/How to sell stuff faster?
    A. There is an Advertisement channel in-game aswell, you can use with/ad <text>.
An advertisement costs money, and ads only appear60 seconds after the last one.
For example, If I post an ad, and you try to post it, you will fail. You could only post an ad, 60 seconds after mine has been posted.

    Example of a good Ad:

    Exampe of a bad Ad:

    Q. Your map sucks donkey nuts, is there a better one?
    A. Why thank you, and in fact, yes there is, thanks to iKane, who found this. - http://www.upload.ee/image/977428/20i6ov8.jpg
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Your question is not answered in this guide?

Wow, well, then it seems that I have failed.

Anywho, there is a help channel in-game, you can talk in it, like this: /n <what you wanna ask, related to the server>

    Good example:

Buy a gun and hope not to be DMed, but you will end up being DMed though, that's how SARP is. If you crash into someones car they pull out guns like shotguns and rob you instead of RPing injuries or exchanging information like you would in real-life. If you block someone from driving in front of you they will start to drive-by kill you.

If you think that is the only way how to get by in SARP.. You sir, are wrong. You need to see if a person is willing to roleplay, or not. If not, then just GTFO From There, before he makes you want to DM him, then you end up being jailed, and what do you do? Get depressed, and quit SAMP, all because of some nooblet. I personally think of DMers as little kids with BBguns who just want to annoy you, just that they can actually hurt me, so either I report them, or I dodge them. Simple as that.

I agree with that Newbie, i mean, i would love to see SARP as a nromal medium RP, but thats not how it is, people think DM'ing is funny,. so i agree with you both,USE REPORT MORE OFTEN.. its what the admins are for!
