An Ak-47 can't fit into a briefcase, the measurament of an weapon like the Ak-47 or even the M16 is 90 Cm.Now about the briefcase, there is not a "standard" size for a briefcase. Originally they were sized to fit a folded newspaper, but lately the airline carry-on restrictions dictate the maximum size allowed. While each airline has its own set of requirements, eBags has identified 22" x 14" x 9" or 45" total (height + width + length) as a basic measure for consumers to follow when making purchase decisions. You can put it only if you are going to disassembled it, otherwise it won't fit, I don't what kind of briefcase/bags you saw but the last time I check they weren't for carrying weapons, maybe Glocks, handguns.
